Brighter Tomorrow: Empowering Girls in Kibera

In Kibera — one of Africa’s largest informal settlements — safety isn’t guaranteed.
Every day, girls face threats of violence, assault, and exploitation that most can’t imagine.

Through Brighter Tomorrow, we launched a series of fundraising and follow-up training programs to help girls in Kibera develop the skills, confidence, and awareness needed to navigate these dangers — and to reclaim their right to a safe and hopeful future.

The training combined classroom learning and practical techniques designed for real-life challenges.
Participants learned how to:

• Recognize unsafe or high-risk situations,

• Avoid or de-escalate potential threats, and

• As a last resort, defend themselves effectively and escape quickly.

We focused on teaching practical methods that can be used by those who may be smaller or physically overpowered — emphasizing leverage, awareness, and smart response over strength.

Because every girl deserves to grow up in an environment where she can learn, dream, and live — without fear.
